Why You’re Always Busy But Never Productive

You should do nothing more.

When was the last time you did nothing?

Like… nothing nothing. No book, no phone, no meditation. Just literally nothing?

It probably was a long time ago. And that's a problem.

Why? Stress.

The world keeps us trapped in too much doing. We're always doing something.

  • We wake up, then go to work or school.

  • We come home, we eat.

  • We go to the gym.

  • We maybe spend time on the internet, or even spend it productive on reading or socializing.

But even though these activities are all good, they're a huge problem:

Our days are filled to the brim with… stuff. We don't get a single second to just take a deep breath and sit alone with our thoughts. There's always something going on. Something you have to do.

We never get the chance to switch out of work-mode. Always busy, like fucking ants. Work, work and more work. There's always something "productive" to do. Do you want to be an ant?

But it's not even your fault. Society has made us think we are only worth as much as we produce. Society made us outcome dependent. We don't get joy out of relaxing anymore. Just the next thing to do, the next task to complete, the next to-do, the next e-mail to be answered, the next "productive" thing to do.

This isn't sustainable. Next thing you know, work and tasks have become your whole identity and you can't switch off.

And when you're alone with your thoughts at some point, it all comes crashing down on you.

But, luckily there's an easy solution to all of this, and it starts with your grandma.

Me and three other guys I'm in a accountability group with have started doing it and coined the term:

Grannymaxxing

Imagine your grandma. What did she do all day? She didn't run after tasks and work. She was never stressed.

She spend half of her days doing nothing.

Maybe she was sitting in front of her house, drinking tea and greeting her neighbors.

Maybe she sat in an armchair knitting.

Our grandma did one crucial thing right: Spend time with your thoughts, and only your thoughts.

This is a skill which most of us lack.

Three days ago when I was grannymaxxing, I sat down and after two seconds I felt the urge to move. The urge to do something. I resisted and after a few more seconds the urge went away. My mind instantly wanted to escape because I feared facing my own thoughts.

Now why the fuck would anyone waste their precious time on sitting around and doing fuck-all? I'll tell you:

1. Ideas

The best ideas don't come to you when your focused on the outside world, doing tasks, working or doing anything else. The best ideas don't come to you when you're stressed, anxious and in a low-vibrational-state.

When you relax and stop distracting yourself, you will automatically come up with genius ideas.

Your thoughts will drift to the important things. You will find solutions to problems that have been plaguing you for months.

You can only access the gold in your mind by getting rid of all the trash. That is only possible by not doing anything.

2. Relaxation

We are all stressed. We all have busy routines and tons of things to do. But cramming our days full of tasks just isn't the way.

We must have a designated time, each and every day, to calm down and disconnect.

Grannymaxxing does this. You can just sit there, sip on some tea and enjoy the life God has given you.

Things you did aren't who you are. The things you do aren't who you are. The things you have to do aren't who you are. Your worries aren't who you are. Your ambitions and goals aren't who you are.

You are, who you are.

This deep relaxation allows you to see past your fake facades and into who you actually are.

3. Allowing God to speak with you

God doesn't speak with you directly. He gives you a small little spark, a tiny vision here and there. If you're not able to catch this spark and turn it into a big fire, you lost the opportunity God gave you.

We are only able to catch this spark, when we remove the water from our minds:

Imagine your mind as a super dry tinder. One spark can be turned into a huge fire.

But then we have our thoughts, worries and anything else that distracts us. That's water. If we have this water in our mind, it's impossible for us to catch the sparks God gives us.

That's why you first need to clear your mind of the water in order to have a chance at catching the spark.

Grannymaxxing allows us to do exactly that. After a few minutes, you notice the voice in your head becoming more and more quiet. Then, and only then, you will hear God.

4. Time will pass slower

We live in an epidemic of speed. Everything is fast.

Hectic.

Everyone has a fast-paced life.

We are constantly being filled with new stuff. New dramas, new trends, new products.

Tariffs here and how AI will replace all of us there. Constantly dumping shit into our brain.

Everything is fast paced. Time flies.

We need a slower life. We need to chill the fuck out. We need to grannymaxxx.

When you sit there with no distractions and nothing to do, you will notice that time slows down.

Time is always moving at the same speed, but the more we do and the faster we live, the faster times flies.

So sit back, and time will pass slower.

5. Nothing will happen if nothing happens

You're first time grannymaxxing you will be hit with an urge to do something instantly.

Your mind will freak out because it got trained into being a non-stop production machine.

But if you win over that initial urge, you will realize something:

Absolutely nothing will happen, when you do nothing.

No, you won't get behind your to-dos.

You won't miss your goals.

You won't run out of time.

You won't miss out on something.

Nothing will fucking happen.

The earth will spin exactly the same. There's no one suddenly stealing all your achievements in life just because you relax for a bit.

You won't miss shit. In fact, you'll miss out if you do NOT take time to grannymaxxx.

The great game of grandma - There's levels to this

To wrap all of this up, I want to provide you with actionable steps to incorporate this into your life.

I'll show you the levels to the great game of grandma:

Level 1: Basic boredom

This is just the basic version: Sit somewhere and stare into the abyss.

Do this for at least 10 minutes every day.

Best time to do this is before going to bed to relax and think all the thoughts so you can fall asleep better.

Level 2: Nature nibbling

Basic grannymaxxing, but in nature. This will elevate the grannymaxxing to a whole new level.

Level 3: Long lazing

Prolonged grannymaxxing. Level 3 starts at 20-30 minutes of grannymaxxing. This is where you'll actually get to know yourself.

Level 4: Sky serenity

Watching the sky. This can be the clouds passing by, like your thoughts. Or you can spend some time watching the stars.

The sky holds infinite lessons and pieces of wisdom for you. You just have to decode them.

Level 5: Porch plebbing

This is actual grannymaxxing. Sitting in front of your house and watching people pass by, greeting everyone. Bonus points for having a cup of tea or smoking a pipe.

Maybe give some unwanted life advice too.

Level 6: Granny grinding

Taking granny-days. This is taking a whole day and grannymaxxing through the whole day. No, stress, no work. Just chilling, playing board games, eating with your family and having deep conversations.

Crack some dark jokes while you're at it.

Honestly, just do nothing. Try it out. It's great.

See for yourself. It costs nothing.

Grannymaxxx.

Stay on the search for the truth.
